The greenbelt is by definition, intended to remain green, off limits to developers. It protects wildlife and waterways that affect not just the acres of land proposed for building, but the entire surrounding ecosystem. These are areas where many Ontarians grew up and learned an appreciation for the beautiful nature found in our province. Taking this away and adding land elsewhere also takes away learning opportunities for our youth within these communities. The environment we always tell our children to protect is under threat in our own backyard. I undserstand there is a housing crisis, and many are dealing with this, but what I do not understand is why we need so many big box stores, large corporations with parking lots that are barely filled. Large hotels that are rarely half full. I would urge the government exhaust all other solutions before even considering the greenbelt, a thing of pride and beauty for many Ontarians, and home to our unique wildlife and ecosystem. Please do not disturb this land and treat it with respect it deserves.
