I completely oppose opening any part of the Greenbelt to any kind of development. This weakens the protection of these environmentally important parts of Ontario. Lobbying to further remove areas from the Greenbelt will start immediately and in a few years there will be nothing left.
Adding other land to the Greenbelt does not ensure the wildlife around the areas that will be taken away are protected any longer. Adding land that is already otherwise protected also does not replace protected Greenbelt land, it diminishes the area of overall protected land.
There is no need to open up any land in the Greenbelt for housing. Ontario has enough space elsewhere to add homes, including around the GTA.
What happened to Doug Ford's promise not to develop the Greenbelt? How come his developer friends bought huge chunks of Greenbelt protected land that is now suddenly open for development?
Why does a lakefront parcel in Grimsby need to be removed from the Greenbelt? Will cheap affordable housing be built there with a lakeview? Who will pay for the infrastructure, especially now that development charges will be reduced?
The people of Ontario do not want our precious resources and environment destroyed by a premier who only thinks of his developer friends. Other countries take climate change serious while Ontario takes destroying the environment serious.
Give the conservation authorities their authorities back so they can properly protect the environment as they should, and leave the Greenbelt alone!
