The greenbelt is established protected land and a point of pride for Ontarians. Nobody wants to buy houses in the middle of nowhere, the housing crisis and shortage of available homes is artificial. Thousands of homes sit empty and purchased but wildly out of reach in terms of price. The solution isn't to cut into the greenbelt, the solution is to limit the ability of corporations to own homes and to limit the number of homes an individual can own. Stop urban sprawl, focus on building UP not out. Leave the greenbelt alone and concentrate development in existing urban spaces or readjust zoning.
