I oppose the removal of lands currently in the Greenbelt or their re-designation for urban uses.
The identified parcels are all in areas that are remote from employment and rapid transit. If developed as urban areas, the residents will be dependent on single occupant motor vehicles to access the necessities of day-to-day life, which will add to traffic congestion and climate change, while also promoting an unhealthy, sedentary lifestyle.
If developed as urban areas, the natural functions of these lands--e.g. filtering rainwater through the soil and filtering air through vegetation--will also be disrupted.
The appropriate place to build housing is near existing or future employment and rapid transit, redeveloping existing urban land, if necessary. Greenfields should remain greenfields.
