The removal of any land from Ontario's precious Greenbelt is very short sighted and will result in long term damage to the valuable ecosystems found in Ontario. The proposal says that 50,000 new housing units could be built if all of the land proposed to be removed is developed. This is woefully inadequate if the projection of 2 million new residents in Ontario is to be believed. There are many many parcels of land already designated and zoned for residential development in fully serviced municipalities that are sitting idle for various reasons. In many cases, developers sit on land so they can make more profit by throttling the supply.
Also, the proposal posting is EXTREMELY misleading, implying that land in the Galt Paris Moraine will be added (referring to Map A). When one looks at Map A, there is a small area of land around Orangeville proposed for addition, NOT the Galt Paris Moraine. I can't believe the provincial government is being so underhanded in how they are saying one thing and doing another (well, maybe I can believe it).
We need to do a better job of building up, not out and supporting and upgrading existing infrastructure like roads, public transit, sewers, hospitals, school and other amenities that existing urban centres provide. The proposed lands would be very expensive to develop while there is a plethora of opportunity available already. Do a better job Ontario!
