The Central Pickering Development Plan as written looks like an excellent piece of policy if followed. The things that are called 'burdens' in this proposal are actually protection for lands that are:
1. natural heritage features such as wetlands, woodlands and grasslands that provide ecological services including carbon storage and carbon sequestration for climate mitigation and flood control, clean air and water for climate adaptation, among many other amenities. All these services are worth millions if not billions of dollars, cannot be replicated by human technology without huge expenditures, and are essential to support our current and future communities.
2. agricultural lands that are essential for feeding us and which also provide ecological and climate mitigating services.

These lands are not needed for growth in the GGH. Lands are already designated for growth and densification within urban boundaries is now known to be the best strategy for further growth if we are to have a sustainable future for Ontario, indeed the world.

This note is written to express opposition to the proposed revocation.
