Please do not do this. We need denser housing within the GTA, not more suburbs. Our housing crisis is because of outdated zoning and development laws, not a lack of land.
More suburbs will increase traffic, and destroying this environment will add costs down the line. Not to mention that the added protected land is nowhere close to the land being taken.
Additionally, suburbs are not revenue positive for the city. The infrastructure requirements to sustain new developments in the green belt will put an increasing tax burden on the city centre (unless there is a plan to increase property taxes in suburbs?). For a “conservative” plan this is alarming fiscally irresponsible.
Finally, I think it’s odd that developers bought a significant amount of the land being re-designated post-elections. Not saying there’s a causation here, but the correlation should be investigated.
