Once greenbelt land is used for development it can never be undone. No amount of urban planning will be able to restore what precious little nature we have left. In a day and age where we are literally fighting to minimize our environmental impact, not just for a distant future of generations to come, but a future within our own lifestyle, development of the Greenbelt, would be only a short term bandaid solution. The real issue is not with lack of land but with lack of policies and infrastructure in place to provide a stepping stone, a bridge to independence not a crutch they will have to rely on indefinitely.
