This government and the Primier promised the people of Ontario that they would not touch the Greeenbelt. It is recognized that there is a need for additional housing, but there is no reason for that to come at the expense of environmental protection. There is ample land available for development in existing settlement areas. If we open up parts of the Greenbelt for development now, what will stop a future government from opening it up further and further until it is a protection with no effect? There is also no established criteria to provide clear justification for how and why these parcels of lands were selected to be removed which further undermines the validity of this proposal and leads one to assume that the province putting developers friendly with the government of the day ahead of the public interest. We only have so much prime agricultural land and local habitat in the GTHA and once its gone it's gone forever. The Greenbelt should grow and I commend the government for proposing additional inclusions, but that is unfortunately overshadowed by the proposed removals, which is a gross betrayal of the trust of the people of Ontario. I implore the government to reverse course on the proposed removals and uphold their promise to maintain the existing Greeenbelt in its entirety.
