The GTA does not need more sprawl. The solution is more density in areas that are already designated as urban areas. More sprawl means more sparsely spread infrastucture which is expensive to build and maintain as well as more impactful to watersheds and wildlife. We already have issues with flooding and lake levels, there is no need to pave over more wetlands and forest to make this issue worse.
The reason there is such an affordability problem with housing is that it is treated like a commodity and people / corporations are allowed to make huge profits off of housing sales and rental units. If there was a supply problem, the price of a house would not have just dropped 20-30% in Canada over the last year.
