This is an absolutely horrific proposal. How absolutely horrendous of this government to try and pass this. As a young woman who is currently pregnant and starting her own family, I want to make sure that my future children grow up in a province where they have access to locally grown food, and can grow up in an area with environmental protections still in place. Once this land is developed it can never go back to the fertile or environmentally important land that it was once before. As a result, this proposal is extraordinarily shortsighted and there's no doubt in many Ontario residents' minds that this is simply to appease those who speculated on the land and bought it and are now wishing to profit off of it. Our environment is tied to our economy, so to remove this vital asset from our province is to do a disservice not only to the environment but to the people and the local economy itself. In a period of time in which the globalization of food has driven prices up tremendously you would have thought that it would have highlighted the importance and vital nature of local food. But it seems that immediate profits are more important than ethics or the future of this province. More affordable and abundant housing is needed, but we are a province with a tremendous amount of land, and a tremendous amount of unprotected non-farmland that can be better developed. Shame on the government for even bringing this forward. Keep your word and leave the greenbelt alone
