I am strongly against the government seizing areas of the greenbelt for development purposes. We have more than enough urban sprawl already and to take over environmental areas to add new homes is outrageous. More thought should be put into higher density housing in current urban areas or developing in areas outside the greenbelt. This is 2022. With proper planning, we can build in other areas that are less environmentally sensitive and incorporate the appropriate transportation and tech necessary for people to work remotely or other similar options which are more environmentally friendly. This land grab is extremely short-sighted and suggests backroom deals. There is no transparency at all and to push this through in such a hurry is extremely suspicious. Where are the environmental surveys to support this move? Where is the plan that lists type of housing to be built? If it’s large single family homes, this is a mistake and more public consultation and planning is absolutely essential. I do not support this plan.
