Premier Ford, and all others concerned, As a mother of four and grandmother of seven I urge you to amend Bill 23 allowing more public consultation. As this Bill stands the damage done to the Greenbelt, which you promised to protect will be devastating. As this Bill stands it will set back land planning use by decades, raze irreplaceable farm land and contribute to biodiversity loss. As we have seen during the Covid 19 pandemic and food shortages, we need to increase our protection of farmland in Ontario. With climate change and the devastating consequences of it, we need to increase our protection of green space for humans and other species alike. On the point of land use, developing the Greenbelt is not going to provide affordable housing where many people will benefit. There are already 88,000 acres of land zoned for development in Ontario. We need to increase density, not create sprawl. Therefore it does not make sense to develop our Ontario treasure, the Greenbelt.
