I believe that the proposed Food and Organic Waste Framework highlights many of the issues with organic waste in Ontario and has clearly stated objectives. In particular I agree that "Preventing food from becoming waste is a critical first step and has the greatest positive impact on the environment". This is why I think the most resources should be allocated to preventing food from becoming waste. To do this the value chain of food and where along this chain it is wasted should be analysed.
To prevent food waste the province should use existing and new partnerships to educate citizens on how they can reduce food waste and save money (e.g. menu planning, shopping more frequently and buying less per trip, using leftovers in soups or stews, general cooking skills). I also believe that showing citizens the monetary value of the food they waste is a great tool to encourage a reduction in food waste.
