I live in protected Green…

I live in protected Green belt lands. I am a land steward. There is wildlife that lives peacefully here. I stand firm that there is no reason to infringe on these protected lands.
• I am deeply concerned about the loss of conservation authority powers resulting from this bill. We are part of UNESCO World Heritage; unique Carolinian forest; fertile land.

• I don’t believe any conservation lands should ever be sold for development, they are needed as habitat and for flood prevention, and mental health. No new process for selling off Conservation Lands is needed.

• Staff in many municipalities don’t have the specific education or expertise to look at issues related to water-shed and longterm impacts related to the stewardship of conservation land. This MUST remain in the hands of conservation authorities.

• The Bill will gut the Green Standards many municipalities have put in place to make new buildings sustainable and energy efficient, with the goal of bringing down local emissions.

• The Bill appears to favour sprawl-type development which will require transit/car travel/ gas fuel/ electric/ infrastructure which will increase fossil fuel consumption. Beyond taxation implications, this is accelerating the death of the planet.

• The argument that this is the only option for affordable housing is egregious. Great cities of the world have built up, not out. Densification creates excitement, momentum. Food insecurity is a coming global issue in relation to climate, why sacrifice another limited natural resource for the short-sighted vision of 1940’s?
