I really disappointed in the Ontario government that they are willing to develop Greenbelt lands, even though the most obvious options have not been exhausted. Developing on Greenbelt lands only serves to enrich a small number of property developers rather than the majority of residents in Ontario. We have not even begun to make enough progress on re-zoning single family home areas and allowing for more density. Developing more single family homes will only exacerbate the housing issue in the future, will require increasing taxes, keep stretching city resources and public services and disincentivizes use of public transit - all the problems associated with urban sprawl.
I recommend that the Ontario government abandon this amendment and take a serious look at the type of housing that's being built and let alone allowed to be built.
