Although we understand that there is a need to build more homes, this Bill reduces the requirements for parkland, reduces the ability for affected residents to have a say in the development applications, reduces development charges needed to fund the necessary infrastructure and reduces the standards on runoff and greenhouse gas emissions.
The negative impacts are detrimental that would impact the next generation and generations to come. It is not ethical to sacrifice all the standards and ignore the residents' voices/concerns, while developers profit millions of dollars under the guise of building more homes.
There have already been many development projects in the Sheppard and Victoria Park/Don Mills corridor, however, traffic congestion, old infrastructure and shortage of community resources have been plaguing these neighbourhoods. No solution has come forward and the promised Sheppard subway extension to Scarborough is still no where insight.
Therefore we strongly oppose this Bill 23 until there are concrete action plans to address these issues raised. Thank you.
