I write as a concerned citizen with considerable knowledge regarding the long-term effects of climate change over many hundreds, indeed thousands, of years.
We are at a tipping point now and it is incumbent upon all of us, but especially those in government, to ensure that the levels of emissions are reduced so as to slow down and eventually eliminate the deleterious effects of pollution caused by emissions from fossil fuels. If we are successful in this effort we will not only improve our health but that of the environment upon which we depend for our survival. I therefore ask that the Ontario government to:
1. Put in place a climate change plan that will reduce emissions, help people save energy and create jobs;
2. Place a price on pollution, make polluters pay for their emissions and return those revenues to Ontarians so that we can lower our carbon footprint;
3. Institute legally binding emissions targets in line with our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement;
4. Ensure that Ontario will be 100% powered by clean energy by 2050'
5. End subsidies and handouts for fossil fuel companies and redirect this money to clean energy solutions.
