Hello, I am here to voice my displeasure of this ongoing struggle for cottagers at Rondeau Provincial Park. Many things come to mind in favour of keeping our beloved cottages. If it weren't for the cottagers, much of the Park's income would not exist. We pay taxes and upkeep. We provide funding for the local store outside of the gates for much of the year and in town. Without the consistent help of cottager dollars, the park would not be as great of a location to come to. The Americans primarily only come up in summer. What would the park do without cottagers' tax dollars, which happen to be quite high. The government has wanted to take over the Park for as long as I have been alive and the lives of my relatives. For decades, we have kept the park clean and well-kept, we adhere to ALL of the Park rules, we do whatever the government of the day asks of us...and what do we get in return? Threats of taking our heritage vacation summer retreats away. These are places that have seen generations grow up. If there is any problem with the park, it is the unruly campers that come occasionally. It is the May 24 weekend. It is the fact that the government cannot even FILL the campsites yet they say they want to remove cottages to make room for more? Everyone...everyone is entitled to green space and parks and vacations...especially if they pay hefty amounts to the government that was voted in by US. The cottagers were basically at Rondeau first...look at the history. You cannot just wipe that away. It is NOT democratic nor is it fair. Doesn't the government enjoy making so much money from the cottagers every single year? We are peaceful and fair but no matter what government is in power, it is always a struggle for us to keep our properties. Lawyers and more lawyers and more and more money. Do WE not have rights? Do we live in a Marxist society? Isn't Canada about the free? Isn't that why our soldiers fought and died...for our freedom? There is room enough at Rondeau Park for everyone. Taking away our cottages is an injustice of the worst kind and just like my parents and their parents before them, we will fight for the what is right. If you owned a cottage here, would you like what is happening? Would you want your cottage demolished along with the decades of your family memories? I think not. People have long memories especially when they vote in the next election (s) and words can spread very quickly. The internet is a very powerful tool and if this 'extension' doesn't occur, or we don't get OUR rights, the votes you so desperately wish to get to stay in power will not happen. Thank you.
