Has the government studied the environmental impact of allowing lands in these preserved areas to be developed? Has it modelled how the area will be impacted in terms of increased risk for flooding? This should be done before removing the protections to the preserve areas that the Central Pickering Development Plan gives. Additionally, the government should study how Pickering could grow up instead of out and what economic benefits that would bring if Pickering become a model for modern city development that takes climate change and healthy urban environments that encourage active transport like walking and biking rather than driving. What this revocation is proposing will condemn Pickering to the path of just another disconnected and sprawling collection buildings.
