I am in favour of granting the 2 year lease extension to the cottagers in Rondeau park.
The Rondeau cottagers have been in the park for over 100 years as the park was originally chartered for cottages. During that time they have more than proven that they are good stewards of the park and are passionate about preserving all that the park has to offer. They are both emotionally and financially invested and they treasure Rondeau as a very special place.
A solution must be found for the permanent occupancy of the cottage lots, and a sale under Section 9(3) of the Provincial Parks & Conservation Reserves Act (2006) as directed by Minister Jeff Yurek is the best way.
In 2019 Minister Jeff Yurek ordered a sale of the cottage lots to Chatham-Kent, this process was started but then obstructed & halted by Ontario Parks bureaucrats in 2022 with little progress made.
A petition to block the sale was started by its author to further his own political gain and should not be given merit. It contains half truths and outright falsehoods that significantly diminish its credibility. For further info on the facts I urge you to review https://www.rondeaufacts.ca
I strongly urge the government to proceed with the long term permanent solution that was in the works. Let the government use the money it would receive as well as the resources it uses to administer the leases and put them to better use. A 2 year lease extension while the details are ironed out is a start, but a long term solutions must be pursued.
