Dear Mr. Ford,
As a voter concerned about the future of this province and our country's commitment to mitigating the devastating effects of climate change on people not only here but around the world, I do not agree with your plans to permanently scrap our policies supporting responsible action on sustainability. In this day and age with what we know I believe we should be building up the green economy as a priority, and putting limits on how much pollution is produced. Polluters need incentives to change and adopt greener technologies and fuels, and the best incentive for businesses is via economic incentives. There is no other way to meet our commitments to the global accord on climate change. Eliminating what we have now is obstructing that plan. We need to look out fo future generations now. I support efforts to create a brighter future. I do not agree with the scrapping of the cap and trade system with no plan to replace it.
To that end here is what I want to see.
I want a real climate change plan to reduce emissions, help people save energy and create jobs in the $26 trillion clean economy.
I want Ontario to put a price on pollution, making polluters pay for their emissions and returning the revenues to the pockets of Ontarians so they can lower their carbon footprint.
I want legally binding emissions targets in line with our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement.
I want Ontario to be 100% powered by clean energy by 2050
I want Ontario to end subsidies and handouts for fossil fuel companies and redirect this money to clean energy solutions.
I want leadership with policies that support a sustainable economy and planet.
Thank you,
JS
