This proposal is unacceptable. Ontarians were promised that the green belt would be a PERMANENTLY PROTECTED area of green space, farmland, forests, wetlands and watersheds. Farmland is not any less worth protecting than any of the other land uses. If areas are to be added to the green belt, this is an acceptable way forward. However, not one square meter should be removed under any circumstances. If the government of Ontario proceeds to take away precious land from the greenbelt, there is no limit to what they might do. There is no longer any trust when it comes to the provincial government in Ontario. It has become too volatile and unpredictable. The greenbelt is our promise to future generations and is to be maintained indefinitely. If it is slowly chipped away at and altered, eventually it will be lost. This would be detrimental to our society and our environment.
