When given the choice between preserving the Greenbelt or handing a huge Christmas present to developers, the choice should be clear. We have a finite supply of good farmland, and paving it over threatens our food security.

Then, there's the natural aquifers and wetlands that help keep our environment strong. This land grab, and doubtless others that will follow, threatens those priceless resources.

Instead of mindlessly sprawling out into these protected areas, why not increase housing supply by building up in already developed areas? That keeps people closer to their jobs, cutting down on commuting, and maintains livable urban centres.

This is, plain and simple, a short-term land grab with long-term negative consequences. Do better.
