Not being knowledgable in…

Not being knowledgable in politics to any great extent I don't understand a lot of this!
What i do see is a lot of healthy farmland and ecosystems that at one time the "smart" leaders deemed important enough to protect. Why is it that one leader can veto the actions of another? Whats the point? I also see homes (family) that will have to be relocated. Where to they go and will they have to "settle" or will they be able to find the same quality and quantity of home/family life?
I would also be concerned about what people are saying about who bought this land years ago and are now selling for a great profit. Should people be able to own conservation land in the first place and are these people really "friends" of Mr Ford? I don't believe everything i read so i really do not know for sure about any nefarious activities but i would think optics would be more favourable for Mr Ford if more was said and learned from this aspect of the story.
Lastly, as Spock said in Star Trek "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one(Kirk)"
I posit - Who determines which side is which!
