Besides the fact that this change was something Doug Ford swore not to do when he was caught trying to sell the Greenbelt to his developer supporters the first time around, this measure is worthless to everyone except the 1% who seek to pave the Greenbelt for their own selfish, greedy purposes.

We are in the middle of a climate crisis and we're paving protected environmental lands? Do you not understand why the Greenbelt was created in the first place? It's rich that Steve Clark is telling conservation authorities to focus on their mandates of flood mitigation when the damage he and Ford are doing to the Greenbelt will greatly increase flooding for years to come.

The Greenbelt is the pride of Ontario and you can't just bulldoze parts of it and say you'll make it up - it's short-sighted and foolish to lean on single-family, urban sprawl homes when these are unaffordable, and will remain unaffordable. And how are we supposed to trust this government to add acres to the Greenbelt since they clearly care so little for it?

A smart move would be to force cities like Toronto to update their codes to allow for more duplexes and triplexes, instead of single family homes and condos alone. Not this wanton destruction of sensitive ecological space, just so Ford's friends can make a quick buck (that they certainly won't be taxed on).

A fraction of the population voted Ford in. His mandate exists because of dumb luck and low voter turnout. People are not going to be willing to wait three years 7 months to vote him out when the majority of them never voted for him in the first place. If Ford wants to keep some semblance of his shambles of a legacy intact, he should actually listen to the 99% instead of his billionaire donors, and cancel this and seek the many other solutions to the housing crisis elsewhere.
