To Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario:
I ask you to rescind this egregious decision to destroy the Greenbelt and Oak Ridges Moraine by swapping out land in order to build houses. It seems an expedient decision made because of pressure from developers, (who also seem to be funding your party). We do not need more urban sprawl where the car dominates our landscape any more than it does. What is needed is more density, smaller homes, more cleverly designed homes. What is needed too, is truly affordable housing - not just 15% less, but truly affordable. Be clever and visionary and altruistic in your thinking and planning.
I would love for you, appeal to you, to provide a vision of a well-planned Toronto that includes an intact Greenbelt and Moraine. Preserve what we have because it is all we have. For the future. Please don't think of just your remaining years in government. Please think beyond that to the future of, for example, my kids, who need clean air, ample clean water, wetlands, biodiversity.
I am afraid of what you are doing. You are reneging on promises you made - and I think you are actually going against what, at heart, you truly believe. That is, you know that carving up the Greenbelt and the Moraine is a dangerous move. It sets a precedent for continued depletion of a national resource by urban sprawl. We need houses, but we need them built with a cleverly designed vision for the future.
Please reconsider and rescind this bill.
Thank you.
