I find the whole premise of Bill 23 very undemocratic in its undermining of public process and engagement both in terms of the public at large and through the knee- capping of organisations that serve the public i.e. Conservation Authorities and municipalities.
That the government's own Affordable Housing Task Force is saying that opening the greenbelt to development is completely unnecessary to achieve the stated goal of 1.5 million homes says it all! In addition to it being completely unnecessary we find out that developers, who just happen to be major donors to the conservative party, have recently bought up much of this land that was considered undevelopable up until yesterday!
There are absolutely no reasons given by this government that the greenbelt is the only place that this development can take place. There are many reasons given by Conservation Authorities, The Greenbelt Alliance, Urban Planners and Designers, climate action groups, the government's own Task Force mentioned above as to why this development is not only unnecessary but is also not for the benefit of Ontarians.
This land grab needs to be exposed for the scam that it is! I am strongly opposed to any development occurring in the greenbelt and I am highly in support of a fulsome investigation into the highly unethical conduct of Doug Ford's government on this matter!
