The Greenbelt Act was a promise to permanently protect these agricultural and environmentally sensitive lands from development. A promise that should be kept. It is incredibly important to safeguard these areas as they are vital to balancing the Ontario ecosystem and protecting against environmental impacts. The bill (bill 23) that is associated with this proposal to amend the Greenbelt Plan is full of empty promises of affordable housing and homebuyers rights while actually doing the opposite. It will take money from the municipalities used for infrastructure and community resources and leave it in the hands of the Premier’s friends. An official inquiry should be launched into any developers who bought Greenbelt protected land prior to the proposal. It is clear that this proposal was brought forth unethically and should not be allowed to pass. This land was meant for the benefit of all Ontarians. To remove even a small piece of it so that developers and government officials can get richer by building more housing that most Ontarians can’t afford is unforgivable.
