The Ford Government has no business opening up Ontario's Greenbelt. I grew up in the GTA in the 60s and 70s. For a time, my family moved away to another area of rural Ontario. When I came back to the GTA in the mid 1980s, I was alarmed at the difference in air quality, the traffic congestion, and all the construction. Now, I live in Oakville. I've lived here since 2009. In the past 13 years Oakville has grown by 50,000+ people. New housing and condominiums are being built everywhere - Bronte Creek Provincial Park is now totally surrounded by new development. The forests and farmland north of Dundas Street are all but gone. Milton is no different - a town of 15,000 people less than 20 years ago is now well over 100,000 and growing. Farmland is being eaten up from Steeles Avenue south to Dundas Street between Milton and Oakville. Pretty soon, Burlington, Oakville, and Milton will be one huge city. There are already serious traffic issues. The Greenbelt is there for a reason. It was protected for a reason. Ontarians need to breathe clean air from the trees that make up the Greenbelt; more trees need to be planted. The fish and wildlife that benefit from the Greenbelt are losing their homes/being displaced. What you have done and are continuing to do lost my vote in any Ontario provincial election moving forward. Developing pieces of the Greenbelt is NOT the answer. Also, none of the housing that's being built is actually affordable for people like me - single household full-time workers making less than $75,000.00 per year. I am now close to 60 years of age, and will never be able to afford to buy a house anywhere in the GTA. Even if I could afford a home, I would NEVER buy anything in a new development built on or close to the Greenbelt. Shame on your Government. This is a huge mistake.
