As a Toronto renter, I am a person affected by the lack of affordable housing, however, in no way do I think this is the correct solution to the problem. I'd rather see more density, more rental-built units, and protect existing rental units, rather than pave over priceless agricultural land and wetlands that provide vital ecosystem services and a place of refuge for those who'd like to spend a little time outside the city. Also, removing green standards on buildings is NOT necessary to get buildings built faster. As Canada's greenhouse gas emissions continue to climb, we can't afford any more energy-guzzling buildings. The amendments to the Greenbelt are asking us to sacrifice the future for dubious present gains, and it's unacceptable and unwise.
