There is nothing in this proposal that ensures affordable housing is being built and there is plenty of room across the developed lands in this province to increase housing sufficiently through infilling, building low rise apartment buildings, duplexes and quadplexes. Single-family homes built on virgin land should be a thing of the past here in the GTA and other populated cities in this province.
It is not sensible to think that affordable housing can be built on virgin land ie; where is no existing infrastructure. Who is paying for that infrastructure? I would suggest it goes onto the cost of the house.
These lands on the Oak Ridges Moraine provide the invaluable, natural treatment of rainfall and run-off before this water ends up in our streams and rivers and then eventually into Lake Ontario, from whence it ultimately ends up as our drinking water. The Oak Ridges Moraine is a huge natural resource that should not be tampered with, especially given our current Global Warming crisis when we know that our rainfall will increase. Paving over more land, creates more run-off and more flooding. How quickly this Province forgets the lessons of Hurricane Hazel.
