The protection of the greenbelt made Ontarians feel like their elected officials had some sense of the importance of protecting farmland, marsh and forest.
Farms are money makers for the province of Ontario and provide local food to a burgeoning population. Marshes purify our water and protect us from flooding. Forests provide habitat for wildlife and capture carbon.
YOu do not need to go in the greenbelt for housing. There is plenty of room for housing without going into greenbelt boundaries. And any new boundaries proposed are already protected by municipalities. It is blatantly obvious that the governemnt is rewarding its developer donors.
