I am vehemently opposed to your proposals to develop Protected Lands. In order for you to be able to do this you are also removing all rights of appeal by “third parties “, namely everyone but the applicant and effected party. You are removing municipal rights to have a large voice and have a say in how their part of Ontario will be developed and you are robbing people of their right to challenge proposals that re-write laws, or their ability to exercise their rights in this democracy -what is supposed to be a democracy but is quickly being eliminated by leaders who assume more power than they really ever had, done by rewriting laws and legislation…with no possibility of dissenting views since you have robbed people of that right and you have full power. You are dismissing all considerations except the monetary gain aspect. Your proposal is rushed and completely
ill-conceived. The only vision is one of destruction and how you will personally gain along with the developers in your pocket.
When you chose the Greenspaces for the “best place” for building on, what on earth led to that conclusion? Is the goal to destroy ecosystems? To eliminate vital habitat for flora and fauna? Is the goal to destroy unique natural environments? What on earth is in your mind when you think of destroying these lands and watersheds? I heard that you’ll designate other “Greenspaces” to replace these - oh yes, and what kind of “Greenspaces “ are you thinking about? Patches of grass here and there? Maybe some scrubland? Why eliminate something so rich in life and endangered species and then replace it with nothing even remotely similar because there isn’t anything similar - that was the point in protecting those tracts - they are unique, irreplaceable and priceless. I am curious what kind of studies, research and consultations were done which led you to zero in on the Protected Land? Aren’t these lands Protected exactly for keeping it from being developed and/or destroyed? Where else in the world does any progressive, green-minded country do this? Who does this? It’s insane. And everyone knows that the developer friends you have are the ones cashing in on the “opportunity “ you’re presenting by your choice to do this.
You know for sure that the people of Ontario (and anyone who cares about the natural world) are hugely opposed to this proposal; as a representative of the people you are obligated to hear us and make decisions appropriately. And obviously I’m not talking about people who benefit from your proposal such as your developer buddies.
Do the right thing. For God’s sake!
