This proposal is a step backwards in addressing the climate emergency. Greenspaces are the greatest gift we can provide our descendants. Once you have given it away, you cannot get it back. It is gone forever. A horrible legacy for a conservative government!

We have also heard from many mayors who unanimously agree that removing or reducing developer fees will result in substantial property tax increases. Not next year or the year after but a decade at least.

I have also read that the bill will NOT lower house prices but drive them up even more as the "cheap" properties are considered cheap if they are a certain percentage of market prices. While we wait for the assault on greenspaces to be completed, home prices will continue to rise. Cheap houses two years from now will be more expensive than today and ballooning property taxes will put them out of reach of even more Ontarians.

The solution is density. Contain the urban sprawl and design communities with better infrastructure, transit and density. There are plenty of areas available today that can be developed without touching the greenbelt.
