The Bill tears down land that is supposed to be permanently protected.
The animals that live in the Greenbelt will lose their homes if we build houses on their natural habitat. Many lives will be lost during the relocation process because the animals will be forced into new territory because of this development plan. It can be especially worrisome if species move further into forests and other areas and eventually become invasive species when trying to find a new home. If any animal becomes an invasive species to their new home, it will be a direct cause of this Bill.
In terms of protecting the environment, older trees produce more oxygen than younger trees. So while it is also proposed that the Greenbelt will be expanded, the benefits of trees - more oxygen and less carbon dioxide in the air - will only be reaped many years down the line. We will be running an oxygen deficit with the new trees replacing the older ones, when we could keep the trees we already have. Younger trees will simply not be able to keep pace with the older trees in the next 10 years, maybe closer to 60 years will those new trees be producing the same amount of oxygen as the trees in the Greenbelt are now.
Financially, property taxes will increase for everyone in the surrounding areas. People have been struggling enough financially, and it's only been increasing within recent memory. Homelessness is on the rise, and this project will only encourage those statistics to rise.
