Objectively, this is a bad idea. We all know Ford’s motives are financial. Quite literally the first thing you learn in planning school is to not touch the green belt given it’s immense ecological value to the entire country, let alone the province. Even to designate 7000 of the 2 million acres is enough to set the precedent of “any time we are short on housing supply we can just dip into this land reserve with no consequence”.

This destroys massive amounts of natural areas and habitats, sets a damaging precedent that we all know will be taken advantage of, and the motivations for this action are not genuine.
