The proposal to consume Greenbelt land for housing is short sighted and does not address the need for both housing and consideration of the critical need for green space that the Greenbelt provides.
The Greenbelt supports not only the retention of carbon dioxide - a major issue in climate change - but also wildlife and flora that provides nesting and homes.
As a province we should be looking at diversifying housing and building “up” with innovative housing design - not more urban sprawl that requires massive increases in infrastructure.
Additionally that land is protected and should not be in the hands of developers as it is.
Why were developers and business people allowed to buy this land?? That’s wrong and if it is protected should be managed by our vital conservation areas.
Point blank - Doug Ford has no right to take away this land from Ontarians. Giving back by putting aside land around Erin is non-sensical. That land does not have the same significance and is a drop in the bucket in comparison to the rich Greenbelt land that will be consumed by developers waiting to fill their pockets.
