Before any consideration is put towards opening up any space in the greenbelt a heartfelt effort should be made by the province to make use of lands that are currently in built up areas. Infill projects and more density in R1 areas should be the focus. We do not need luxury housing we need entry level and affordable housing near public transit and walkable amenities. Many open spaces and derelict properties can be found in Toronto, Hamilton, Brantford to name a few that could be reutilized for more housing. Using agricultural lands and greenspace is overlooking already available and under utilized lands that would make more sense for entry level home buyers or affordable housing. This idea of opening up the greenbelt is clearly a cash grab for property developers and politicians. Shameful that the wishes of the majority of the constituents of Ontario is being ignored! We were promised those lands would not be opened up for development and that promise needs to be kept.
