This bill needs to be revised. More protection needs to be provided for our environment, heritage, and municipalities. This bill does the complete opposite and benefits a small number of developers at the expense of our communities. Housing is an important issue but the bill as it stands will not solve the crisis; worse, it will increase costs for existing homeowners as their municipal taxes go up, and traffic congestion will increase with additional development in the Green Belt. Furthermore, the Green Belt protects the best agricultural land in Canada, and in a new era of climate change and geopolitical uncertainty, food security for Ontarians and Canadians has never been more important. By removing these protections the Ford government is sacrificing generations of Canadians by placing them in an uncertain future.
