I am deeply concerned at your plan to pave over the green belt. This swath of land provides 53 per cent of Ontario’s fruit and 11 per cent of Ontario’s vegetables; it also consists of Class 1 agricultural lands. We need to be able to feed ourselves and this destruction of such prime farm land permanently destroys these resources. The effects of climate change ( like increased flooding, drought and wildfires) are being felt around the world and are affecting the ability of Ontarians to import food. The focus should be on ensuring Ontario has the ability to be food secure. Additionally, the wetlands and Greenbelt and forests act to clean out our air and water and reduce flood risk.
