Unfortunately I do not trust the current Ontario Provincial Government to do the right thing when it comes to our land and our environment. Much of the proposed Greenbelt land designated for repurposing is in the headwaters or close by to the headwaters of our rivers and creeks that run through the Golden Horseshoe.
Every action will cause a reaction and change in our environment. For example, the current redevelopment of the Don River basin in Toronto’s Portlands district will hopefully allow environmental regrowth of fish and fowl in the river along with native fauna and the lower part of the river can return to a version of its original state. In doing so, we are recreating a strong ecosystem and reversing a ridiculous government decision that caused the mouth of the river to be altered in the past.
I’m very concerned that the proposed changes to the Greenbelt, allowing the construction of new housing will have a devastating long term affect on our ecosystems. This would be history repeating itself.
Sadly, no matter how many Ontario citizens speak out against this decision, I feel the current government will ignore our voices and proceed as planned. It is a sad state of affairs when a small number of rich land developers have the ear of the current Premier of Ontario and the majority of Ontarian's don’t.
Thank you for your time.
