I know my comment will fall on deaf ears because the Ford government will stop at nothing to pass this bill and remove the Greenbelt area. The Ford government does not care about the wishes of the people who OVERWHELMINGLY do not want this to happen.

The removal of the Greenbelt will NOT help the housing crisis - it will allow Doug Ford’s friends to build unreasonably priced housing on protected land. For all Ford complained about conflicts of interest in his campaign against the Liberals, I can’t believe he is being allowed to do the same thing. These builders are his friends who will financially benefit when this bill passes - if this isn’t a conflict of interest, I don’t know what is. What’s more, Ford planned this when he first ran, got caught and recorded saying he was going to open the Greenbelt to development, and then backtracked when people became angry and said they didn’t want it. It is evident he is a liar who does not care about what the people want. They want affordable, well planned housing in areas accessible to transit so commutes don’t take 2 hours each way, not homes the majority of Ontarians cannot afford.

The houses built on this land will NOT be affordable - they will be priced at $800k-2mil as the other homes in this area currently are. There is nothing in this bill that will curb the unaffordable housing prices in this area, which is the real problem.

Doug Ford isn’t looking to protect the environment by increasing green space. Removing the Greenbelt to re-designate in another area is still subtraction of ecologically significant land. And what’s to say the re-designated land will be safe, along with the rest of the Greenbelt in this area? Absolutely nothing, not when Ford and his friends benefit from removing it.
