We should be aggresively expanding our protected lands, and never EVER taking away that protection status. I understand there is a housing crisis. I also understand that there is 10's of Billions of dollars to be made. Why would this money go into the pockets of developers? How have these developers already secured loans for projects on protected lands? It seems as if the decision is all but a formality at this point, otherwise what bank would approve such a loan? Well they have, and that is very telling indeed.
The entirety of this venture should be closely investigated as it seems very odd considering the fortunes to be made here. The government should be recognizing the opportunity to invest and capitalize, rather than allowing other private entities to get rich. Our health care system is crumbling, our environmental protection is being sold away. My children's future is being auctioned off to the highest bidder.
I'm saddened and disgusted by it. This country is so vast... yet we insist on focusing on developing land that is so important to the is country, the environment and the future of all future generations. This continued short sightedness will cost us dearly.
