I am firmly opposed to the proposed amendment to the Greenbelt plan for several reasons.

First, Ford said, multiple times, that the Greenbelt would not be developed and he is fraudulently going back on his word.

Second, this whole plan reeks of corruption, payola, and kickbacks. It cannot be coincidence that developers have purchased land - much of it in the past year! - that Ford wants to develop. How did those developers know to buy this land? The fact that the housing minister has refused to say that he did not talk to developers suggests that developers were illegally tipped off. What are Ford and the minister receiving in return? I expect it will not be actual money but I hope people are watching for in-kind donations like cars and cottages, or donations to members of Ford's family.

Third, various agencies in their reports have already said that this particular land is not needed to accommodate the influx of immigrants. If the land is not strictly needed, why is this plan being proposed? Corruption and fraud is why.

Fourth, the best and most climate-change friendly way to deal with the influx of immigrants is not expensive housing on the Greenbelt but to increase housing density in urban centers. We do not need more sprawl. We do not need to build on floodplains (Ford has said that this will not happen but he has shown that he is a liar when it comes to the Greenbelt).

We do not need this protected land. We need affordable housing. We need plans that are actually transparent, honest, and above board which this plan is not.
