The Greenbelt should NOT be touched. Once fertile, arable land is developed it cannot be turned back to agriculture. As the government of Ontario likes to remind the "commoners" that the Golden Horseshoe is expected to attract another 2 million people in less than 10 years, I would like to remind them that the world is expected to grow by another 2 billion (with a B) people in the next 30 years.

The answer does not lie in building over the best farmland in the country but in densifying the space we already occupy. It is worth remembering that all of Canada has less productive (and fertile) farmland than the state of California.

The next step will be to propose new highways, again over prime farmland. Then will come the shopping malls, wide streets to manage the vehicle traffic and it will repeat itself as this government is proposing. I say ENOUGH !! This model from the 1950's is broken.

Build smartly instead of building ever further out. Change the zoning bylaws so that there is higher densification, especially close to transportation hubs.

To add insult to injury, the "apparent" connection with developers and the Ontario Progressive (or rather Regressive) Conservatives does not look good.

The Greenbelt belongs to the people of Ontario and NOT with the Conservative Party of Ontario. The changes proposed will be permanent and a full consultation (read referendum) should be in the works should the current government persist in imposing on the will of the people.
