The conservative government of Ontario should keep its electoral promise to keep protecting the Greenbelt and to not develop it for any means. It plays a vital role as forests, farmland and wetlands in combatting climate change, providing habitat for all species including endangered ones and food for humans and all other species alike. The current government is not respecting its citizens wants and wishes for our health and environment. It does not have the right to take protected land from present and future generations of Canadians and cause immense environmental, health and socioeconomic problems for the whole population by « developing » such land for profit for a few selected individuals. It is a short sighted bandaid solution to a problem that simply doesn’t exist. There is already enough allotted space needed for development for housing already ( and we need to build up and by better- not out) and urban sprawl into a protected green zone is a horrendous « solution » ; it’s a catastrophic error and one future generations will be furious and devastated by. This bill profits the few and private and will cost taxpayers more than just money. It will cost tax payers more money which profiting private business whilst sacrificing our ecosystem where we all live. You cannot eat nor breathe money. The green belt is for all Ontariens and Canadians and the government. It is not for sale and not for profit.it is for all.
