The only word I can think of to describe this proposal is disgusting.
It is a proposal that benefits a very few developers at the expense of the people of Ontario, the environment, and our food security.
Not only is Doug Ford backtracking on a promise he made not to touch the Greenbelt, he is trying to sell it as a solution to the affordable housing crisis, which it is not.
The houses built on these flood plains and environmentally sensitive lands will not be affordable. And the apartment buildings that will be torn down will displace thousands of renters who won't be able to find affordable replacements.
When this farmland is gone, it's gone for good. As we face growing food shortages in the coming years due to climate change, we will not be able to turn these lands back into places to grow food and sustain the very people of this province.
This proposal will download hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses to municipalities and tax payers, who are already struggling to find ways to address the affordable housing crisis. We are at our breaking point. We see through your PR campaign. This is NOT for the people.
In a word: disgusting.
