The government should be protecting the existing Greenbelt and adding to it. Until every bit of underdeveloped, vacant or underused property in the Golden Horseshoe is better utilized, greenbelt land should not even be considered for development. We need to build more compact communities serviced by an excellent transit systems which accommodates the reduction of fossil fuel use and services the communities so that automobiles are not required for most people. Biodiversity is declining and many more species are becoming endangered. Bee populations have crashed this past winter and many related species will soon show declines if we don't act now to protect our Greenbelt. We are at a tipping point from which there may be no return. Once species decline to low levels we lose genetic variability which helps them adjust to changing environments. We need action now before the bulldozer are given the go ahead. https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.add0007
