As a taxpayer, I am deeply concerned about Doug Ford's proposal to rezone the greenbelt. The greenbelt has been proven to generate environmental and economic benefits for Ontarians, such as increased water quality, improved air quality, and improved public health, not to mention the potential tourism and recreational opportunities. Re-zoning the greenbelt would not only destroy these benefits, it would also put us at risk for costly environmental disasters, such as flooding and contamination of our water sources. Furthermore, the cost to clean up and restore the greenbelt would be a burden to taxpayers.
